Presented by Ryan Dowd; Pre-register by April 6

Through the Maryland State Library, USMAI libraries have access to live webinars offered by Ryan Dowd's Homeless Training Institute. Staff at USMAI libraries also have access to recorded webinars and the Librarian's Guide to Homelessness through Niche Academy.

The next webinar, "Prejudice: Responding to Prejudicial Comments from Customers," will be held on Thursday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m. The monthly webinars are usually an hour long, but this webinar will be 90 minutes long.

This webinar requires pre-registration, and a workbook will be mailed to you the day before the event. Please visit the event page to pre-register.

Topics:

  • Why most approaches to confronting prejudice actually increase prejudice (according to research!).
  • How to use a “Peanut Butter Opener” with people who might react aggressively.
  • Fifteen strategies to choose from depending on who the person is.

If you would like to receive the access info directly from the Homeless Training Institute (recommended), please fill out this short form. For the last question, enter "Maryland State."

Tip: USMAI members interested in this webinar may also want to check out the free course, Dismantling Institutional Racism in Your Library.

UPDATE: A recording of this webinar is now available. Visit the event page for more information. (4-13-2021)
